Relevance of tourism
Tourism sector has found an exponential growth since 1985. It has grown to become one of the most prominent business sectors, which contributes 10 percent of the global GDP. Researchers say that if tourism can be considered as a country, it would emerge as one with the world's largest GDP.
So much is the growth and significance of tourism sector that no country can neglect it or give it lesser importance than other sectors. It contributes to the exchequer of more than 120 nations. (When you consider that there only about 170 countries in the world, you will understand the significance of the role played by tourism.)
It plays a key role in the economies of both developed as well as developing countries. India also tries to promote the sector as far as possible and each of its States has a distinct plan, feature and strategy to draw tourists. Among them, Kerala has emerged as a successful tourism model. Understanding the necessity to promote tourism with the right strategies, Kerala has introduced innovative steps in this sector. The State has taken various elements of life here and highlighted them properly so that the tourists will be attracted to the State. The authorities also came up with projects focusing on Eco-tourism, kerala ayurveda tourism, Backwater tourism etc and the State still has many unexplored areas which will be brought to the fore in the near future.
